NWA Trophy Forage is a premium blend of Forage Clovers and Forage Brassica that you can trust to improve the whitetail habitat. The annual forage plants in this mix work as a cover crop to protect the perennial “ladino type” clovers and to allow them to establish into a high quality food plot that will provide high protein forage for 3 to 5 years.

Forage Brassica:
The best yielding New Zealand forage brassicas (including rape & turnip varieties) blended together in NWA Trophy Forage to deliver the highest levels of protein and mineral content of any annual forage crop available on the market today... up to 38% protein. By blending brassica varieties this mixture has been adapted to an extremely wide range of soils and weather conditions and will provide both abundant large-leaf and root forage into the winter months. Average mature plant height is 24 inches tall.
Perennial Forage Clover:
The best of the proven perennial forage ladino clovers are used in NWA Trophy Forage to attract deer and consistently provide high levels of protein and mineral content that deer will increasingly need throughout the entire year... up to 35% protein. All of the clover seeds are coated and inoculated to assure nitrogen fixation of the clover plants. These plants were chosen for their protein and mineral content, high TDN and drought resistance.
Annual Forage Clovers:
The best of the fast growing forage clovers have been selected to give your herd a reliable source of nutrition. These annual clovers grow more quickly than other clovers and have the potential to grow well over 18” in height, providing your deer herd with tons of palatable forage. These forage clovers contain a consistent high level of protein (up to 35%) and their mineral content makes it a forage that deer both need and prefer. |

Moisture, Soil Preparation and Planting Depth are crucial to the success of your food plot.

Soil Preparation:
To plant NWA Trophy Forage properly you will need a firm, well-prepared seed bed, both limed and fertilized. We recommend breaking the ground and cultivating the soil 4”- 6” deep. Remove all competing weeds and then add fertilizer and lime as recommended. After properly cultivating, it is very important to level and lightly pack the soil before seeding your plot. You can lightly pack the soil by running over your food plot with an ATV or a roller.
a. Fertilizer Requirements - For optimum results, a soil test should be performed prior to planting to determine your plot’s need for fertilizer & lime. If a soil test cannot be done, we recommend preparing the seed bed by applying up to 300 lbs of 13-13-13 fertilizer or equivalent per acre. We also recommend refertilizing when the plants are 10” tall with 40 lbs of Ammonium Nitrate or equivalent per acre to increase the protein & forage available as forage begins to be heavily grazed by your deer herd. Do not fertilize during a drought.
b. pH of Soil & Liming - The recommended soil pH is 6.0-7.5. A soil test should be performed prior to planting to determine your soil pH and the need for lime & fertilizer. If a soil test cannot be done, we recommend preparing the seed bed by applying up to one ton of lime per acre or use 2 gallons of Gain per acre.
Planting Depth:
NWA Trophy Forage contains small seeds that normally do not need to be covered in a properly prepared seed bed. We recommend broadcasting the seed and then rolling the seed into the seed bed by running over your food plot with an ATV or a roller. Never cover the seeds with more than 1/4” of dirt.
Moisture:
Soil moisture is vital to the plants being able to establish themselves. The soil should be moist when planting, with a resonable expectation of future rainfall. If adequate moisture is not available for an extended period, the plot may become stunted or fail to extablish. |

| If your NWA Trophy Forage food plot is properly maintained, it can be very productive for over 3 years and should not need replanting for up to 5 years. It is important to fertilize your food plot at least once a year. We recommend twice a year, once in the Spring and once in the Fall. Also, if your plot develops more than 15% native weeds you will need to top them off at about 10”. We recommend that this be done only once a year during the Spring to reduce weed competition. Topping off your plot does not hurt the forage plants in NWA Trophy Forage, but excessive crushing of the plants by heavy equipment will injure their root structures. We therefore recommend that you always try to minimize the travel of heavy equipment through your plot. |
